Lilacs and Terry Fox.
Lilacs and Terry Fox.

Lilacs are known for being hardy shrubs, they can live to be more than 100 years old. Often, because of their life span, they often survive longer than the home of the gardener that planted them.

The lilac, depending on its color, symbolizes many things. Since it was introduced over 300 years ago, it also has many meanings to different cultures and religions.

Reading through all the different meanings, I found it interesting to not see strength as one of the symbols. For a shrub that can survive longer than those that planted them and appear as relics of old homesteads, it surely symbolizes strength and perseverance.

It is fitting today to share this beautiful lilac landscape photo. It is the Terry Fox Run across Canada today, and Terry Fox himself is a symbol of strength and perseverance. His Marathon of Hope raised awareness of the disease that affects so many of our lives. Let’s continue to follow what he started in 1980 and join together to raise funds for cancer research.

The Lac La Biche Terry Fox Run registration takes place at McArthur Place 12pm and the tun start time is 1pm. If you can not make it, consider donating in support of the Terry Fox Run for cancer research. Here is the link to donate: https://rdar.li/terry-fox-run-donations
