The bird migration to Northern Alberta started in late March. For bird lovers, it is magical seeing them for the first time each spring. Even the first sounds of “honking” flyer over head is a welcome sound.
If you are interested in the migration times, here is an article from the Prairie Birder with some great info. https://rdar.li/praire-birder-spring-arrival-dates. The article may be a tad out of date (2015), but the info should be fairly close. They are tracking the changes in migration due to climate change, and these average dates of old are most likely going to change.
If you like to share bird info, there is a cool app (you need to download) called “iNaturalist”. You can submit different the different species you see at your feeders or out and about.
Someone I know has a bird motto: “Never leave a feeder empty.” These feeders are a birds’ paradise. Proof? Check out the little video below the word search.
In theme with the bird migration, our photo jigsaw is from our returning Feature Photographer, Muriel Cardinal. She caught a great picture of some birds chowing down.
Check out the blog category : “Feature Photographer” for each of our past photographers stunning pics. Find them all here > https://rdar.li/bee-hive–your-local-buzz
