Our pets deserve a bit of the festive holidays too. A few tips to make them safe this holidays:
– Avoid tummy upset by not feeding them table scraps including bones, which can splinter and cause you and your pet more grief than they are worth.
– Chocolate is toxic to dogs along with some seasonal plants like poinsettias, holly and ivy.
– For the dog that cleans up everything on the floor or cat that likes the ornaments on the tree; watch for tinsel and other stringy ornaments or easily breakable ornaments.
– Lots of activity can cause anxiety. Make sure you have a quiet place for your pet to hang out.

Little pet and Christmas history:
Did you know that in the Victorian era (1837 to 1901) there were Christmas traditions like today, but they also included their pets! They added them to family portraits often dressing them in festive costumes…not unlike today.
And, believe it or not, Santa’s little helpers in a tale from the 1800’s were dogs and not reindeer.
