Greenbean Adventures 2025.

Saturday, August 30, 25 -7:00am โ€“ McGrane Road, Lac La Biche Lake

The long weekend was to be our trip canoeing, fishing, and camping at McGuffin Lake in Lakeland Provincial Park, but the sweltering weeklong heatwave shut down those plans. ๐Ÿฅต We settled for an early morning paddle close to home.

It was truly a beautiful morning (although ridiculously early); clear skies with a very light southeast wind.

We went to our favorite launching spot, and when we unloaded the canoe, we were shocked to see how low the water levels were; have to be at least 2ft down from last time we were here in July. Along the green water edge, you can see some blue-green algae. ๐Ÿคฎ (Surprisingly, the colors are quite unique.)

It was the perfect day to do some exploring; we paddled out to Black Fox Island and circled around it. Lots of weed beds, Pelicans, Seagulls, and other birds along the shore and on the shallow-ground exposed from the low water line. Out between Black Fox and Poplar Point, there is even a large rock sticking up that the birds are using as a buffet location.

After circling around, we paddled out towards Modeanโ€™s Point (past Lac La Biche Mission).

A rest stop on the shore heading back to our launch point was relaxing. A couple of squirrels were checking us out.

We enjoy being out on the water, paddling and visiting. But half the fun is in getting there ๐Ÿ˜‚โ€ฆsome words of the day:
โ€“ Country Heat 2000 tape
โ€“ stupid early
โ€“ 4 green and speckled frogs
โ€“ lovely greeny-blue
โ€“ Raffi
โ€“ quicksand poop
Plans for the McGuffin trip in the works for later in September (hope the weather works in our favour); it is a much-needed trip. ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ›ถ๐Ÿ’š
